BrAshA-T (ataxia-telangiectasia) PhD Scholarship
Scholarship Description
The human genetic disorder ataxia-telangiectasia (A-T) is a multi-system disease affecting the immune, endocrine and nervous systems. A-T patients are also hypersensitive to radiation and are predisposed to developing leukaemias and lymphomas. The identification of the defective gene (ATM) in this syndrome has assisted in our understanding of the cellular response to radiation. However, there is at present no cure for this progressive, neurodegenerative disorder. BrAshA-T ataxia telangiectasia limited is an organisation established in Australia to support research into this disorder and is pleased to be able to establish a PhD scholarship at the Qld Institute of Medical Research. Enrolment for the PhD will be through the University of Queensland. Further information can be obtained from Professor Martin Lavin,
